An entrepreneur’s confidence is inspiring. When we heard from Samana, we were thrilled to find a CEO who knows what makes her clients happy. And like the rest of us, she shares her desire to know so much more about marketing. Read on to find out more about this healthcare guru.
What business did you start up?
North Shore Natural Health Care. We focus on de-stressing moms and helping kids be healthy through natural and conscious healing methods which include energy balancing, diet and education.
What motivated you to do it?
I want to help moms and kids to be healthy, and to teach them greater awareness to cultivate health and balance in their lives and in their bodies.
How many children do you have, and how old are they?
I have two amazing stepchildren. Ian is 10 years old and Isabelle is 12 years old.
How long have you been running your business?
For about 1.5 years, my husband Rango and I have been developing it together.
How long did it take you to start becoming profitable and/or successful, however you choose to measure success?
We are still building. I am working part-time doing physical therapy with a physician’s group which I enjoy. The business can pay for our office expenses but we need supplemental income so my husband does some chiropractic and I do the physical therapy. We are working to upgrade our website and begin blogging to improve online exposure.
How did your family react to you starting your own business?
My husband and I did it together so it’s all good. The kids only come on a few weekends per month so they are not too involved in our business. They are fine with whatever we do.
Easiest part of your job?
I enjoy seeing the clients. It’s great to help kids and moms become healthier and more aware of ways to stay healthy. I truly love helping and serving others with any skills and gifts that I have.
Hardest part of your job?
Trying to organize my day and be most effective for working on blogging, networking, social media, and so on. I don’t have great experience running a business. I’ve read numerous resources and will meet with a social media expert soon.
What skill would you most like to improve?
Marketing and networking. As my husband has pointed out, I am great at giving, but I don’t really talk myself up or know how to present myself and my business. I am good at being myself and from what I’ve read that’s a good place to start.
What tools or advice do you wish you knew then that you know now?
I wish I knew more about how to market effectively and be seen in ways that help to build a business.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of?
I have built enough of a client base to support having a nice office in Northfield and decorating it. I became certified in my main tool, BodyTalk, in less than a year through intensive study and travel. I am top notch at what I do and confident in my work.
Can you recommend 3 essential websites for moms in, or going into, business?
This one.
Zen Habits is a great blog.
A-1 Blogging is useful in getting started on blogging.
Favorite part of a typical day?
When I’m with clients serving and sharing. Sessions done on clients or family members to help them to be healthier are my favorite time.
And a few more questions, considering that American Express should be featuring more mom entrepreneurs…
Childhood ambition? To be a singer/songwriter.
Time of day you get the most work done? Midday between 12 and 5 PM.
