Take me out to a ball game? Yes please. Do it using a neat new website that lets me score big? Absolutely.

Recently, ScoreBig.com offered me an opportunity to try out their site where I could purchase tickets to a local event. Being that I’m in Chicago, there was no choice but to hone in on a Cubs game. Wrigley Field is stunning. Sports fans are hysterical. And while I’m going to have to brush up a bit on the ins & outs (see what I did there?) of baseball, I thought I’d take a stab at some top notch seats to a future game.

At first glance, ScoreBig looks a lot like other ticket-purchasing websites. Search your city or event type and find your fan favorite. You’re guaranteed to save on each ticket — they’re already discounted on the site. No fees, you choose your seating area, and you tell them what you want to pay for concerts, sports, theater, Broadway or family shows. Too good to be true, right? But instead of immediately purchasing a ticket, first you get to make an offer. This confused me at the start. How do I make an offer? What would seem reasonable? Who’s the person on the other end haggling with me?

Turns out they make it really easy for you. I threw out a number, having no idea if it would fly. The site almost instantaneously notified me that my offer had been declined and shot me a counteroffer. Ever get fierce with a machine? I did. I wanted to throw down another counteroffer. Take that. But I couldn’t. If you don’t accept the first counteroffer, you can’t make another offer for 24 hours. You’re in lockout. Not from all of the tickets to that event, but from the ones that you most desire and just tried to buy.

At first I was mad. Fuming.

And then? I realized it was genius.

Because I counted the hours. Kinda like they do in statistical regression analysis. Nay, the minutes. For twenty four hours. And then how badly did I want those exact tickets? So badly that I was a proud sucker and accepted the same counteroffer presented to me again. But I have the tickets!! The glorious tickets!!! It’s going to be the best baseball game of my life.

In short: get in on a pretty neat way to grab tickets to your favorite events. Affordable seats to great events and score big? Yes please.
