Party alert! Michele’s done a fantastic job of marrying her two loves — painting and having a good time. She wants to help other people find the joys of artistic expression, collectively. Find out what drove her to launch and why she loves what she does.

What business did you start up?

Art Rave Inc., A social painting party and art instruction business.

What motivated you to do it?

I am a professional artist and wanted a new, fun way to market my talents and services.

How many children do you have, and how old are they?

Four children ages 14, 9, 5, and 2 1/2.

How long have you been running your business?

About 8 months.

How long did it take you to start becoming profitable and/or successful, however you choose to measure success?

Within the first two months.

How did your family react to you starting your own business?

They were very supportive and love being involved in the business. It has brought out the artist in all of us!

Easiest part of your job?

Finding paintings to create to add to my Art Rave gallery. A new painting can be the next thing that inspires someone to attend an Art Rave event. My business is all about painting and making painting fun! If I don’t have fun painting something, why would anyone else?

Hardest part of your job?

Marketing and event planning. Finding new venues to partner with and getting the word out for people to attend public parties.

What skill would you most like to improve?

Marketing.

What tools or advice do you wish you knew then that you know now?

I think that Facebook has been a great marketing tool and I wish I would have started using it earlier.

What is the accomplishment you are most proud of?

I am most proud of my branding and business identity. I designed the logo myself and do all my own marketing material so far.

Favorite part of a typical day?

When I get to take out my paints and “play.”
